Urnes Stave Church
In the 1130s, the world's oldest stave church was built. It is majestically located at the top of the small village of Urnes, just across the fjord from Solvorn. Urnes Stave Church was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. This is one of the biggest attractions we have in the area and well worth a visit. To get to Urnes from Solvorn, you take the small car ferry that leaves from the quay, just below Walaker Hotell. After a visit to the stave church, you can cycle, or drive, inland along the fjord. This is a narrow and beautiful road, an experience in itself. After a few kilometers you can see the spectacular Feigumfossen waterfall, which has a free fall of a whopping 218 meters.
